I believe that for a concession or victory speech to be "effective", the speaker must not come off as arrogant, if they won, or bitter, if they lost, because it will damage their ethos throughout the speech. By using more pathos, the speaker is able to connect with both parties and get them on his side for future voting occurances.
In John McCain's concession speech, he is able to use pathos effectively throughout the speech. He also organizes his speech in a way that does not confuse the listeners and uses quotes in order to strengthen his position and to appear more patriotic. His use of repetition also is key because it makes the audience think about specific parts of his speech long after he has given it.
The candidate that our group is going to be writing a speech for is John McCain. We feel that the best way to organize and present this concession speech is to first thank all of the supporters then to express his congratulations to the President Elect and finally to annouce his future plans in politics. As long as the tone doesn't come off as bitter or arrogant in any way, John McCain will be able to set himself up for future political offices if he chooses to run.
